# Migrate from the earlier Linux commands

> Update Linux scripts and habits from the original Tuple for Linux commands to the Tuple CLI.

The `tuple` command on Linux is now the [Tuple CLI](/cli/overview), the same CLI that ships with the macOS and Windows clients. Some commands from the original Linux client are gone, some are renamed, and some still work unchanged.

Run `tuple --help` to see which commands your installed version supports.

## Removed commands

These commands no longer work. Use the Tuple CLI command instead.

| Earlier command | Tuple CLI command | Notes |
| - | - | - |
| `tuple call` | `tuple call start <person>` | Pass the person to call. The earlier command prompted you to pick from your online favorites. To see them, run `tuple contacts list --favorited --status online`. |
| `tuple join <url>` | `tuple call join <person-or-url>` | Also accepts a contact or a room slug. Pass `--switch` to leave your current call first. |
| `tuple end` | `tuple call leave` | Leaves the current call. |
| `tuple ls` | `tuple contacts list` | Supports filters such as `--query`, `--status`, and `--favorited`. |
| `tuple favorite <user-id>` | `tuple contacts favorite <person>` | `<person>` matches a contact's name or email address. |
| `tuple unfavorite <user-id>` | `tuple contacts unfavorite <person>` | `<person>` matches a contact's name or email address. |
| `tuple mute` | `tuple call mute` | |
| `tuple unmute` | `tuple call unmute` | |

If a `<person>` argument matches more than one contact, the command fails and lists the matches. Use a more specific name or the full email address.

See the [command reference](/cli/commands) for every flag.

## Renamed commands

These commands have new names. The earlier names still work but print a warning, so update your scripts.

| Earlier command | Tuple CLI command |
| - | - |
| `tuple on` | `tuple start` |
| `tuple off` | `tuple stop` |

## Unchanged commands

These Linux-only commands work as before:

* `tuple login`
* `tuple auth <code>`
* `tuple logout`

`tuple version` and `tuple --version` print the app version.

These commands still work but are deprecated:

* `tuple new`
* `tuple share` and `tuple unshare`
* `tuple ui`
* `tuple settings` and `tuple set <name> <value>`

See [Tuple for Linux](/getting-started/tuple-for-linux#commands) for details on Linux-only and deprecated commands.

## Example

An earlier script:

```bash theme={null}
tuple on
tuple join https://tuple.app/c/example
tuple mute
tuple end
tuple off
```

The same script with the Tuple CLI:

```bash theme={null}
tuple start
tuple call join https://tuple.app/c/example
tuple call mute
tuple call leave
tuple stop
```
